Agartala, December 15:
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on charges of raping a nine-year-old minor girl under Madhupur police station in Sepahijala district of Tripura.
According to details of the incident, the accused, identified as Russel Mia, son of Rijik Mia of Kamalasagar Miyapara area, allegedly lured the minor girl— on the pretext of affection and sexually assaulted her. Initially, the child did not disclose the incident. However, as her physical and mental distress worsened, she eventually narrated the ordeal to her parents.
Following this, the victim’s parents approached Madhupur police station on Sunday evening and lodged a rape complaint against Russel Mia.
Acting on the complaint, a police team led by Madhupur police station’s Second Officer Chittaranjan Reang conducted a raid and arrested the accused from his residence.
Reportedly the accused is a married man, yet allegedly committed the crime by repeatedly luring the minor with various inducements.
Officer Reang confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of rape and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, and the accused has been taken into custody.
He will be produced before the sub-divisional court on today.
Meanwhile, the accused claimed that he has been falsely implicated and insisted that he is not involved in the crime.
Police officials stated that the truth of the allegations will be established following medical examination and further investigation is on.
