Agartala, December 2:
In a tragic incident, a 40-year-old farmer, Sanjib Das, died on Tuesday evening after sustaining fatal injuries while loading a heavy sack of paddy onto a truck. The accident occurred at Monughat under Sabroom police station in South Tripura district.
According to his father, Niranjan Das, Sanjib slipped while lifting the sack on his head and collapsed under its weight. Family members and neighbours immediately tried to arrange transportation to take him to Sabroom Sub-Divisional Hospital. However, the delay in securing a vehicle proved critical, and Sanjib succumbed to his injuries shortly after the fall.
Upon receiving the information, police personnel reached the hospital and began an inquiry into the incident. Officers also asked the family for permission to conduct a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death. The bereaved father, however, declined the request, stating that the circumstances leading to the accident were clearly known and that he did not wish for his son’s body to undergo an autopsy.
The sudden death of the farmer has cast a shadow of grief over the locality, leaving the community shaken. Residents expressed sorrow over the incident, which underscores the daily risks faced by labourers and farmers engaged in physically demanding work.
Locals also highlighted the urgent need for accessible transportation and immediate medical assistance in remote areas to prevent similar tragedies. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities of rural workers who often operate without adequate safety measures or support systems.
Sanjib’s untimely demise has left his family devastated, and the community continues to mourn the loss of a hardworking farmer whose life was cut short in a moment of misfortune.
