Agartala: May 14: In a heartfelt tribute to social responsibility and compassion, Sauvik Bardhan Roy, along with his two daughters, donated blood at IGM Hospital in Agartala on Saturday — marking a silent yet powerful celebration of World Blood Donor Day.
This year’s observance, which commemorates the birth anniversary of Karl Landsteiner, the pioneer of blood transfusion, became all the more meaningful for the Bardhan Roy family. What began as a personal commitment by the father has now transformed into a cherished family tradition.
Sauvik Bardhan Roy, an Inspector with the Legal Metrology Department, made his 70th blood donation on this day — a remarkable milestone that speaks volumes of his dedication to social service. “It all started back in 2002 at our home in Ramnagar-3, in the presence of Dibyananda Maharaj. That day, the idea of family blood donation was born,” he shared with the media.
As he stood in the blood bank alongside his daughters, the moment turned into more than just a routine donation — it became a symbol of legacy, values, and humanity.
His elder daughter, Debjani Bardhan Roy, who donated for the ninth time, was joined by her younger sister Dakshini, who participated for the first time after turning 18. Dakshini’s beaming smile during the donation quietly reflected the joy and pride in being part of this noble tradition.
“I want my daughters to contribute to society, and nothing is better than donating blood voluntarily,” Sauvik said, highlighting the importance of instilling values of community service from an early age.
