Agartala: June 02: In a significant blow to narcotics smuggling in the Northeast, Assam Rifles, in a joint operation with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), successfully recovered 70,000 Yaba tablets in the early hours of 01 June 2025. The seizure took place near Teliamura in Tripura, following actionable intelligence received by the agencies.
The contraband was being transported in a WagonR vehicle bearing registration number TR 01-BL-0337. The estimated international market value of the seized narcotics is approximately ₹7 crore. Yaba tablets, known for their highly addictive properties, pose a growing threat in the region, and this seizure marks a critical intervention in the ongoing battle against drug trafficking.
Two individuals have been apprehended in connection with the operation. The accused have been identified as Shamal Majumdar, a resident of West Tripura, and Malaya Debnath, from North Tripura. Both individuals were taken into custody at the site and, along with the seized narcotics, were handed over to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence for further investigation and legal action.
This successful operation highlights the synergy and coordination between Assam Rifles and DRI in combating the menace of drug trafficking along India’s northeastern borders.
