Agartala: April 05: On Thursday night, the Agartala West Police Station detained a young man, Mangal Deep Biswas, in the Battala Market area for possession of a large quantity of Yaba tablets. The arrest came after a confidential tip-off, leading to the seizure of 2,000 Yaba tablets, valued at over 2.5 lakh rupees in the market.
Speaking to the media, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Debprasad Roy provided details about the operation, confirming that the authorities had acted swiftly following intelligence reports. The Yaba tablets, known for their high potential for abuse, were recovered from Biswas, who has a previous criminal record. In 2023, Biswas had served a jail sentence under the Narcotics Control Act, and it appears that he has continued his involvement in drug trafficking.
SDPO Roy emphasized that the arrest is part of a broader effort to combat the growing drug menace in the region. Biswas is expected to be presented in court on Friday, where police will seek his remand to facilitate further investigation. Authorities have assured that legal proceedings are being followed meticulously, and the investigation into his drug-related activities is ongoing.
This operation has been hailed as a significant success by local residents and police, as it removes a key figure in the drug trade from the streets. Authorities are hopeful that the arrest will deter others involved in similar illegal activities, bringing some relief to the community that has long been concerned about the spread of narcotics in the area. The police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect the well-being of local residents.
