Agartala: Mar 02: Finally, another active member of the notorious robbery gang, which terrorized the district dressed in army uniforms, has been arrested by the Churaibari police. The arrest of this gang member has provided some relief to the local population, who had been living in constant fear due to the gang’s criminal activities.
The terrifying robbery occurred in the early hours of February 22 in Govindpur, under Churaibari police station in North Tripura. The gang, disguised as army personnel wearing TSR uniforms, entered a house, pointed a gun at the head of the householder, and carried out the robbery in a highly calculated manner.
Following the incident, the police launched an investigation and arrested two suspects, Kabil Hossain (28) and Zamir Uddin (42), on Wednesday night. Both are from the South Kadamtala village panchayat, under Kadamtala police station. The police charged them with multiple offenses under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including arms-related charges, and placed them under police custody for questioning. Subsequently, the police applied for a five-day remand, and the court granted three days for further interrogation.
On Saturday, during intense questioning, the police were able to identify another active gang member, Bilal Uddin, alias Helal (34), who also hails from South Kadamtala. He was arrested after a thorough investigation.
According to Bilal’s confession, the police recovered several items used in the robbery, including three sets of TSR uniforms, two spades, a machete, and a knife from a jungle area in Govindpur. However, the police have yet to recover any stolen goods, and the two firearms used in the robbery remain missing.
The police believe that more individuals were involved in the crime, though their identities are being withheld for investigative reasons. The investigation continues, and Bilal Uddin will be sent to court for further remand.
