Agartala, February 20: In a major crackdown, the Agartala Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested two Bangladeshi nationals, including a woman, for entering Tripura without valid documents . Additionally, in a separate operation, the they also apprehended a drug trafficker with a consignment of cannabis at Agartala Railway Station.
The arrested Bangladeshi nationals have been identified as Amit Dhar, a resident of Chattogram, and Mili Akhter, a resident of Dhaka, Bangladesh.
“We arrested them from Agartala Railway Station yesterday. A case has been registered against them under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), the Indian Passport (IPP) Act, and the Foreigners’ Act. They have been presented before the court today,” said Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of Agartala GRP Police Station.
The arrests were made during a joint operation conducted by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), Border Security Force (BSF), and other allied agencies.
Initial investigations suggest that the duo was planning to travel to Kolkata by train.
“Our investigation is underway to identify those facilitating such illegal infiltrations. Legal action will be taken against them,” Das added.
In another significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, Agartala GRP apprehended Jhoton Nam from Madhya Dukli with a substantial consignment of cannabis during a late-night raid at Agartala Railway Station.
In connection to a separate NDPS case, one Bimal Debbarma from Ranirbazar was also arrested.
Both individuals will be presented before the local court, where police will seek their remand for further interrogation. Investigations into their supply networks are ongoing.
