Agartala February 19:In a testament to their unwavering commitment to humanitarian aid and disaster relief, the Assam Rifles have concluded an intensive and arduous 44-day mine rescue operation in Umarangso . As on 19 February 2025, the operation has resulted in the recovery of five more mortal remains.
Today, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) successfully recovered one additional mortal remain in the afternoon, however, operations were suspended due to adverse weather conditions. Search efforts resumed at 4:45 pm during which four additional mortal remains were recovered by NDRF and Army, thereby increasing the total to nine.
The operation, marked by resilience of Assam Rifles, underscores the force’s unparalleled proficiency in providing critical assistance during times of extreme crisis. As the first responders, Assam Rifles promptly established their strategic presence, offering invaluable support to the Army’s Engineer Task Force (ETF) and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF). Within hours of their arrival, the team skillfully set up an ad-hoc helipad, enabling the seamless transportation of essential heavy pumps and facilitating the rapid execution of relief operations.
Throughout the duration of the 44-day mission, the Assam Rifles continued to provide crucial logistical and manpower support to the ETF, assisting in the installation of heavy equipment and effectively fulfilling a myriad of operational demands. Their exemplary coordination and collaborative approach ensured the efficient advancement of the relief efforts, despite the harsh weather and challenging environment.
This operation, spanning over six weeks, attests to the tireless commitment, dedication and professionalism of the Assam Rifles in disaster relief operations, reinforcing their pivotal role in safeguarding and assisting the nation during its most testing times.
