Agartala, January 25: The 15th State-Level National Voters’ Day (NVD) 2025 was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan in Agartala, Tripura.
The event, marking 75 years of the Election Commission of India (ECI), was graced by Chief Secretary JK Sinha, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Brijesh Pandey, State Election Commissioner Saradindu Chaudhuri, DM West Tripura Vishal Kumar, and other dignitaries.
CEO Brijesh Pandey emphasized the ECI’s commitment to increasing voter participation and awareness.
He shared that following the special summary revision initiated in November 2024, Tripura added 26,000 new voters, bringing the total number of voters in the state to 28.9 lakh, as per the final voters’ list published on January 6, 2025.
Chief Secretary JK Sinha lauded Tripura’s high electoral registration and participation rates, citing the peaceful and enthusiastic voter turnout during the 2024 Parliamentary Elections.
He noted that the election process in Tripura is evolving into a festive celebration, with a significant reduction in the deployment of central security forces—from 450 companies during the 2023 Assembly elections to 100 companies in the 2024 Parliamentary elections—reflecting the growing public awareness against poll violence.
The event also honored individuals who contributed to the election process with certificates of recognition and voter’s pledge was also taken.
Olympiad gymnast Dipa Karmakar, Paralympian swimmer Samir Barman and transgender icon Nupur participated in the celebrations, symbolizing inclusivity in the electoral process.
State Election Commissioner Saradindu Chaudhuri urged new voters to exercise their voting rights responsibly for the betterment of the nation.
The celebration witnessed the participation of a large number of students and new voters, with voter identity cards being distributed to the latter. Expressing their excitement, several new voters highlighted the empowerment that comes with their ability to choose their leaders.
The 2025 NVD theme, “Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure,” highlights the importance of voter participation.
India’s electoral base has now reached 99.1 crore, including 21.7 crore young voters aged 18-29. The electoral gender ratio has also seen an improvement, rising from 948 in 2024 to 954 in 2025.
National Voters’ Day, observed annually since 2011, aims to promote voter awareness and encourage greater participation in the democratic process, celebrating the establishment of the ECI on January 25, 1950.
