Agartala: Dec 29: Former BJP MLA Diba Chandra Hrangkhawl, who resigned yesterday on Thursday joined the Congress party during a rally in front of the Rabindra Shatabarshiki Bhawan in presence of AICC Tripura incharge Dr Ajay Kumar, MLA Sudip Roy Barman and other senior leaders including former CM Samir Ranjan Barman.
67-year old Diba Chandra, who was elected with a BJP ticket from Karamcherra assembly constituency in Dhalai district in the 2018 elections, is a four-term MLA. He started his political career from a regional tribal party called the Tripura Upajati Juba Samiti (TUJS) and was first elected in 1978 and later moved to Congress. Along with Hrangkhawl, BJP leader Rajkumar Sarkar and Trinamool Congress youth leader Rakesh Das also joined Congress today.
Speaking at the rally, All India Congress Committee (AICC) general secretary in-charge of Tripura Ajay Kumar said people have lost employment opportunities and youths are left to do petty jobs despite being educated under BJP’s watch. He said his party would run a statewide campaign against alleged BJP misrule with a ‘chargesheet’ of the saffron party’s “failures” and “betrayals” on the promises made in its Vision Document prior to 2018.
Meantime, Sudip Roy Barman raised the various promises of the BJP in the vision document post 2018 and allied that non were kept and added that huge corruption and violence under this government.
He urged the public to come out unitedly against the misrule of the BJP led government and give one opportunity to Congress by voting for it and bring it to power and for the development of the state.Earlier, Congress took out a huge procession in the capital city and raised slogans against the BJP government.
