Agartala, Oct 24: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha questioned the political credibility of the INDIA bloc, asserting that its constituents would not achieve anything despite their attempts to mobilise opposition forces against the BJP.
“Whatever they do, they will not be able to achieve anything in India,” Saha told reporters, reacting to the opposition’s political mobilisation in the state.
The chief minister accused opposition parties of being more concerned about regaining political power than working for the people. He also criticised their reliance on demonstrations and road blockades, arguing that such activities would not necessarily translate into public support.
Saha urged opposition parties to adopt a constructive approach and demonstrate their commitment to public welfare through their work.
His remarks came amid the CPI(M)-led Left Front and the Congress announced a joint agitation in Agartala on November 13 against the Election Commission of India, alleging that the poll panel was favouring the ruling BJP ahead of the forthcoming urban local body elections.
The two parties plan to raise objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, changes in the appointment process of election commissioners and legal provisions relating to protection for members of the poll panel.
The proposed agitation marks a fresh attempt by the Left and the Congress to coordinate their political activities in Tripura, where both parties are seeking to challenge the BJP ahead of the civic elections.
The opposition has alleged that changes to the electoral framework and the functioning of the Election Commission undermine the independence of the constitutional body and benefit the ruling party. These allegations have been made by the opposition parties.
