Agartala: July 30: The Pradesh Congress has called for an inquiry into the Gandachara incident by an acting High Court judge. On Tuesday, leaders of the Pradesh Congress Party visited Gandachhara and spoke with residents in the refugee camp.
In a press conference in Agartala, Congress MLA Sudeep Roy Barman stated that the people of Gandachhara are in a state of panic due to recent attacks and arson. He emphasized the need for a thorough investigation and demanded that the incident be investigated by a duty judge of the High Court.
MLA Barman also highlighted the dire conditions in the refugee camp, where residents are living under polythene sheets and facing food shortages. He noted that children are only receiving biscuits for breakfast, which they continue to eat until the afternoon. He criticized the government for not providing adequate assistance to those in the camps and called for full compensation for the affected individuals.
Barman pointed out that women in the camps, whose livelihoods depended on cattle, have lost their animals due to the arson. He expressed concern about how these families will sustain themselves even if new houses are built.
Additionally, Barman questioned how such incidents could occur despite the presence of police and the imposition of Section 163 in Gandachara. He demanded a proper investigation into the matter and called for a government job for the elder brother of Parameshwar Riang, who died in the incident.
