Agartala, Oct 11:The younger generation should be viewed as responsible citizens of the present rather than merely the leaders of tomorrow, RSS Tripura Sah-Prant Pracharak Kannanji said on Sunday, calling for greater efforts to provide young people with a clear social purpose and encourage their participation in nation-building.
Addressing a gathering during a route march organised by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in West Tripura district, Kannanji said society often blamed young people for their shortcomings without providing them with meaningful objectives.
“The younger generation is not just the citizen of the future; it is also the citizen of the present. Young people have the capacity to give direction to society,” he said, urging them to come forward and shoulder their responsibilities.
He said the large participation of young people in Sunday’s march conveyed a message about their role in serving society and the nation.
Kannanji said the RSS believed in the strength of an organised society and considered the organisation of Hindu society essential to India’s aspiration to provide leadership and direction to the world.
The annual route march was intended to demonstrate the collective strength of volunteers in uniform and highlight the importance of discipline, unity and social responsibility, he said.
The organisation sought to develop volunteers whose conduct and leadership would inspire others to work alongside them, Kannanji added.
He said such programmes were also aimed at strengthening confidence among people who took pride in the country’s progress. The RSS sought to instil confidence in society and create apprehension among forces it considered anti-national, he added.
Founded in 1925, the RSS began its centenary celebrations on Vijayadashami in 2025. Kannanji said the organisation had conducted several programmes during the centenary year, which concluded with Sunday’s route march in Tripura.
Unlike its customary Vijayadashami observance, the route march in Tripura was held on Mahalaya, keeping in view the state’s Durga Puja celebrations, he said.
RSS volunteers in uniform participated in marches organised across all districts of Tripura.
In West Tripura, the programme began at the grounds of Pragati Vidyabhavan School in Agartala. The march proceeded through various roads in the city before returning to its starting point.
RSS Tripura Prant Sanghchalak Bimal Kanti Roy also attended the programme.
