Agartala, October 6: The Agartala West Police Station on Tuesday held a meeting with Durga Puja organisers and representatives of local organisations to discuss security, traffic management and crowd-control measures ahead of the upcoming festive season.
The meeting was held at Muktadhara Hall and attended by representatives of various puja committees, local organisations and police officials.
With Durga Puja and Kali Puja approaching, the meeting focused on maintaining law and order, ensuring the safety of devotees and visitors, preventing untoward incidents and managing traffic congestion around puja pandals.
Police officials stressed the need for close coordination among puja committees, the administration, police and local residents to ensure that the celebrations pass off peacefully.
Officer-in-Charge of West Agartala Police Station, Sanjit Sen, said smooth and peaceful celebrations would require the collective responsibility and cooperation of all stakeholders.
He urged puja organisers and citizens to cooperate with the police and adhere to the guidelines issued by the authorities to ensure that visitors can enjoy pandal-hopping safely and without disruption.
Senior police officials, including SDPO Pannalal Sen, briefed the participants on the security and management arrangements being put in place for the festive period.
The police said all necessary measures would be taken to maintain peace and order across the city and ensure the safety of devotees during Durga Puja and Kali Puja.
Traffic management was also a key area of discussion, with officials anticipating large gatherings at prominent puja pandals across Agartala. Measures to minimise congestion and facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles and pedestrians were discussed during the meeting.
Police officials also emphasised the importance of puja committees following safety and administrative guidelines and maintaining regular communication with the authorities during the celebrations.
The administration would provide all necessary support to puja organisers, officials said, while underlining that active cooperation from the public would be crucial for maintaining a safe and peaceful festive atmosphere.
The meeting comes as Agartala gears up for the annual Durga Puja celebrations, which attract large crowds to puja pandals across the city.
Police authorities appealed to residents and visitors to celebrate responsibly and cooperate with security personnel and other officials to ensure peaceful and trouble-free festivities.
Officials said coordinated efforts by the police, administration, puja committees and the public would help ensure that the festive celebrations are conducted in a safe and orderly manner.
