Agartala, September 25:** Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Friday underlined the continuing relevance of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy, particularly his emphasis on ‘Antyodaya’ and the upliftment of the most disadvantaged sections of society.
Saha was speaking at a commemorative programme organised by the Information and Cultural Affairs Department at Muktadhara Auditorium in Agartala to mark Upadhyaya’s birth anniversary.
According to the Chief Minister, Upadhyaya’s philosophy of Integral Humanism offers a framework for inclusive social development. He said the principle of ‘Antyodaya’, centred on taking development and welfare to people at the last mile, continues to inspire the government’s efforts towards the overall development of society.
The programme opened with dignitaries paying floral tribute to Upadhyaya’s portrait.
Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder, MLA Meena Rani Sarkar, ICA Director Bimbisar Bhattacharya, local corporators and other dignitaries were present at the event.
Recalling Upadhyaya’s contribution, Saha spoke about his ideas concerning Indian society and culture, as well as his emphasis on improving the lives of people. He described Upadhyaya as a thinker and philosopher whose ideas influenced India’s social and political discourse.
The Chief Minister said the focus on the welfare of people at the margins of society remains significant and called for continued inspiration from Upadhyaya’s ideals while pursuing public welfare.
Other speakers highlighted different aspects of Upadhyaya’s life, including his simple lifestyle, patriotism and organisational skills. They also spoke about his emphasis on the upliftment of disadvantaged sections.
Party workers, supporters and members of the public attended the programme, which included commemorative proceedings and floral tributes in memory of Upadhyaya and his contribution to public life and social thought.
