**Agartala, September 13:** Police have detained a person and impounded a motorcycle in connection with the alleged necklace-snatching of an elderly woman in the Bankumari area of Agartala, after CCTV footage provided investigators with vital leads.
The incident occurred on September 11 in the Jogendranagar-Bankumari area when Gita Das was returning from a morning walk with a neighbour. Police said two men riding a motorcycle allegedly approached her and fled after snatching her necklace.
Das reported the matter at the East Agartala Police Station around two hours after the incident. Her complaint prompted police to begin a detailed probe into the movements of the suspected offenders and the motorcycle used in the alleged crime.
Investigators subsequently reviewed CCTV recordings from the locality. The footage reportedly captured two helmeted riders on a motorcycle and helped police identify the vehicle as a key lead in the case.
After developing further information from the CCTV footage and other sources, police launched an operation in the Radhanagar area. One person was detained during the operation, while the motorcycle suspected to have been involved in the incident was also seized and impounded.
East Agartala Police Station Officer-in-Charge Krishnadhan Sarkar confirmed the development and said the investigation was continuing.
According to Sarkar, the victim had been on her morning walk with a neighbour when the alleged snatching took place. Police received her complaint roughly two hours later and immediately began working on the available leads.
He said CCTV footage showing two persons wearing helmets and travelling on a motorcycle had helped investigators in tracing the suspected vehicle, which has now been impounded.
Police are questioning the detained person to determine his alleged connection with the incident and to obtain information about the other rider.
Further evidence is also being examined as investigators work to establish the identities of both persons and determine their respective roles in the alleged offence.
