**Agartala, September 9:**
A new rural retail initiative aimed at strengthening women-led enterprises and creating better market opportunities for local farmers was launched at Dhajanagar Gram Panchayat under Tepania R.D. Block with the inauguration of the Gomati Fresh Vegetable Mart.
The marketplace, established with support from the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM), was inaugurated by Gomati District Magistrate and Collector Rinku Lather.
The project has been taken up through the Block Mission Management Unit (BMMU), Tepania, while its day-to-day operations will be managed by the Natun Disha Cluster Level Federation (CLF).
The newly opened mart is intended to serve as a dedicated outlet for vegetables grown by members of Self-Help Groups (SHGs) affiliated with the CLF. By providing producers with a direct avenue to sell their harvest, the initiative seeks to reduce marketing difficulties and improve returns from agricultural activities.
The facility is expected to give rural women greater control over the marketing of their produce while creating an organised platform for expanding small-scale agricultural businesses.
The initiative also seeks to bridge the gap between local producers and consumers. Residents in the surrounding areas will be able to purchase fresh vegetables sourced directly from local growers, providing them with easier access to locally cultivated produce.
Officials said the project reflects the broader livelihood-generation objectives of TRLM, particularly its efforts to help SHG members move beyond production and gain access to sustainable and reliable markets.
For women involved in farming and allied livelihood activities, assured market access can play an important role in turning small-scale production into a more dependable source of income. The new mart is expected to support this transition by bringing producers and consumers closer together.
The involvement of the CLF in managing the outlet also provides an opportunity for SHG members to gain experience in collective enterprise management, retail operations and local marketing.
The Gomati Fresh Vegetable Mart is therefore being viewed not simply as a retail outlet but as a community-level livelihood initiative aimed at strengthening the rural economy through collective action.
With locally produced vegetables reaching consumers through an organised marketplace, the initiative is expected to benefit both producers and residents while encouraging greater participation of rural women in sustainable economic activities.
