Agartala, July 31: Tripura Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha on Friday said that development projects worth around ₹406 crore have been inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid in South Tripura district over the past two years, describing the achievements as a major milestone in fulfilling the aspirations of the people.
The Chief Minister made the remarks after inaugurating and laying the foundation stones for a fresh set of projects worth ₹178 crore in the district. The projects span key sectors including education, healthcare, road infrastructure, and tribal welfare, aimed at improving public services and strengthening development across the region.
Addressing a public gathering, Dr. Saha said the state government remains committed to ensuring that the benefits of development reach every section of society and every part of Tripura. He said the pace of development under the present government reflects its focus on improving infrastructure and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.
Drawing a comparison with the previous Left Front government, Dr. Saha alleged that despite being in power for 35 years, it had failed to deliver significant development in the state. In contrast, he said, the current government has undertaken a large number of development initiatives within a relatively short period.
The Chief Minister also accused the opposition of attempting to mislead the public regarding the government’s performance. However, he asserted that people are aware of the ground reality and can clearly see the changes taking place across the state.
“The people understand the reality,” Dr. Saha said, adding that the government’s priority is to continue implementing welfare and infrastructure projects that directly benefit the public.
During his address, the Chief Minister also criticized the Leader of the Opposition for allegedly referring to the Superintendent of Police of South Tripura district as an “idiot” during a recent incident. Dr. Saha described the remark as inappropriate and said it reflected the attitude of the opposition during its tenure in power.
The programme was attended by Ministers Shukla Charan Noatia and Bikash Debbarma, local MLAs, public representatives, South Tripura District Magistrate Mohammad Sajad P, senior government officials, and residents from the district. The newly announced projects are expected to further strengthen infrastructure and accelerate socio-economic development in South Tripura.
