Agartala, July 10: A prabhat pheri was organised at Kathaltali in Tripura’s Surjyamaninagar Assembly constituency on Thursday as part of a series of programmes commemorating the death anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mukharjee.
The events are being held under the supervision of Tripura Assembly Deputy Speaker and local MLA Ramprasad Paul. According to organisers, the programme began on June 23 and will continue until July 10 across different parts of the constituency.
Around 400 to 500 people participated in Thursday’s procession, which commenced from Kathaltali and passed through several localities before concluding at a community hall.
A commemorative meeting was held after the procession, during which Ramprasad Paul highlighted the life, ideals and public service of Syama Prasad Mookerjee. He described Mukharjee as a patriotic leader and spoke about his contributions to national politics.
Paul also referred to Mukharjee’s advocacy of the “One Nation, One Flag” concept and said the country was moving towards that vision under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
As part of the programme, a quiz competition on the life and contributions of Syama Prasad Mookerjee was organised for local residents. Winners were awarded cash prizes of ₹500 each.
Organisers said similar prabhat pheri programmes will continue to be held in different areas of the Surjyamaninagar Assembly constituency till July 10 as part of the commemorative observance.
