Dharmanagar, May 16: The sudden and controversial death of youth leader and municipal councillor Rahul Kishore Roy has triggered widespread outrage in Dharmanagar, with his family demanding immediate arrests and strict punishment for those they allege were responsible for pushing him into severe mental distress.
Twelve days after the incident, Roy’s mother and wife spoke publicly to the media, accusing political rivals of continuously threatening and humiliating him. According to the family, the repeated intimidation created unbearable mental pressure on the young leader, eventually leading to the tragic incident.
The family alleged that on the day of his death, several individuals associated with a political group came to their residence and openly threatened Roy. They claimed the atmosphere of fear and harassment deeply affected him and left the family traumatised.
Roy’s mother described her son as a victim of political vendetta, alleging that he had been targeted because of his growing public support and political activities. His wife also claimed that constant public humiliation and mental torture made it impossible for him to cope with the pressure as both a youth leader and an elected representative.
The grieving family further alleged that despite submitting a written complaint naming those they hold responsible, police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the case. They accused the administration of remaining inactive and questioned whether influential persons were being protected.
“The delay in taking action raises serious doubts about the fairness and neutrality of the investigation,” a family member said during the interaction with reporters.
Adding to the controversy, the family stated that the newly elected Dharmanagar MLA had visited their residence after the incident and assured them that strict legal action would be taken against the culprits. According to the family, the MLA also clarified that he had no involvement in the matter.
In an emotional appeal, Roy’s mother and wife urged Manik Saha to personally intervene in the case, ensure the arrest of the accused, and deliver exemplary punishment so that “no other family has to endure such pain.”
The incident has intensified public debate over political hostility, mental harassment, and accountability of law enforcement agencies in Tripura, with many closely watching how the investigation progresses.
