Agartala, May 5: In a major breakthrough amid rising cases of bike theft across Tripura, Sepahijala district police have recovered nine stolen two-wheelers, including eight motorcycles and one scooty, from a house in Charilam Bazaar area in the same district, a police official said.
Inspector Sanjit Sen, Officer-in-Charge of Bishalgarh police station, said the recovery followed a tip-off from a youth Jewel Hussain, who had lost his bike in March during a local fair.
On Sunday the youth had lodged a complaint after spotting his missing vehicle in the residence of one Subrata Debnath, located close to the Charilam market from where here lost his two-wheeler.
Acting swiftly, a police team raided the house and discovered a total of nine stolen two-wheelers, including the complainant’s bike.
Upon questioning, the house owner, Subrata Debnath, failed to provide a satisfactory explanation for the presence of so many stolen vehicles on his property and was subsequently arrested.
Inspector Sen added that a theft case has been registered and all recovered vehicles would be returned to their rightful owners while Subrata Debnath will be produced in court, with the police seeking remand for further interrogation to uncover possible links to a larger bike theft racket.
