Agartala: Dec 22: Congress MLA Sudip Roy Barman held a press conference at the Pradesh Congress Bhavan, condemning Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his derogatory remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. Barman stated that not only Congress but the entire nation was outraged by Shah’s comments, which he believed reflected a divisive mindset aimed at undermining the rights of scheduled castes. Barman accused the ruling BJP of attempting to divide the country and deprive marginalized communities of their rights, asserting that Shah’s comments were an attack on the democratic values of the nation.
Barman also criticized the attempt to deflect attention from Shah’s controversial statements by falsely accusing Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of assaulting a BJP MP. He emphasized that such attempts to change the narrative would not work. He said the BJP’s comments were aimed at undermining democracy and weakening the country’s unity, and that the ruling party had not shown any remorse for Shah’s remarks.
In response, Barman announced that on December 24, the Congress party would organize a “Long March” in every district to protest Shah’s remarks, with a particular focus on honoring Dr. Ambedkar. The protests will include floral tributes at the statues of Ambedkar, and Barman called on all democratic forces and citizens to join in condemning the Home Minister’s comments. He also stated that the protests would continue until Shah apologizes and Prime Minister Modi takes action against him.
Barman concluded by urging the public to strengthen the movement, stating that the protests would gain momentum until Shah’s controversial remarks were retracted and an apology issued.
