Agartala, November 18: In a significant meeting at the Raj Bhavan, Agartala, a delegation from the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), led by Chief Executive Member Purna Chandra Jamatia, engaged with the Governor of Tripura, Indrasena Reddy Nallu.
The focal points of discussion included various developmental projects and concerns related to the TTAADC areas. Notably, the delegation sought the Governor’s assent to 24 Bills, including Indigenous customary laws, passed by the District Council for the administrative convenience of the general public. These bills are currently awaiting approval from the state government.
A major issue highlighted by the delegation was the non-release of funds in accordance with the state-approved budget. This financial constraint not only hampers ongoing development works but also affects the timely payment of salaries.
The TTAADC representatives emphasized that the actual total requirement of funds for the year 2023-24, covering salaries, pensions, wages, and other administrative expenditures for 6871 employees and pensioners, is Rs. 481.00 Crores. However, the state government has allocated only Rs. 360.00 Crores, insufficient for the outlined purposes.
To address this, the delegation proposed the creation of a separate Head of Account for TTAADC funds dedicated to salaries, pensions, wages, and another for development activities to meet the welfare needs of the people in TTAADC.
Another concern raised was the disparity between the TTAADC’s proposed budget of Rs. 1148.35 Crores for 2023-24 and the state government’s approval of only Rs. 672.64 Crores.
The delegation also brought attention to the pending Village Committee Election, which expired on 08-03-2021.
They emphasized that without elected members, proper development activities, monitoring, and planning in village committee areas become challenging.
Various other issues, encompassing roads, infrastructure, education, health, hostel facilities, and livelihood, were also discussed.
The delegation sought the personal intervention of the Governor to address these pressing matters and ensure the well-being of the people in TTAADC.
