Agartala, November 9: During the three-hour sit-in protest near the Gandhi statue area, demonstrators displayed banners and posters, vocalizing their demands for peace in Manipur and criticizing the government’s response.
This demonstration was part of a larger regional protest organized by the North East Student’s Organization (NESO), the apex body representing major student unions in the region.
The protesters highlighted the fact that Manipur has been embroiled in communal violence between the Maite and Kuki tribes for over 190 days.
They alleged that this situation indicates a lack of seriousness on the part of the central government towards the region, as had similar issues occurred in other parts of India would have been addressed more swiftly.
The demonstrators called for immediate government action to restore normalcy in Manipur, prevent further violence, and safeguard both lives and property.
