In one of the largest heroin haul in Mizoram, the state police personnel seized 3 kilos and 02 grams of heroin in Mizoram-Myanmar border Champhai district of Tuesday, Mizoram Police said.
Police said that acting on specific input, Champhai Police Station team led by Sub Iinspector C Lalsangliana and Asst. SI PC Lalhmachhuana conducted search operation in and around Hnahlan and Tualcheng village areas in Champhai district.
“Early morning of Tuesday at 3:00AM, the team intercepted and seized 3.02 Kgs of Heroin, concealed in 250 soap cases, valued over Rs. 15 Crores in international market, from the illegal possession of Neezam Uddin (48) s/o Akhodos Ali of Nilam Bazar, Karimganj, Assam and Ismail Ali Laskar (27) s/o Jamal Uddin Laskar of Ramnathpur, Hailakandi, Assam,” they said.
The accused persons, travelling in a vehicle (pick up) bearing registration No.MZ-04-A-8486 and were caught at the outskirt of Tualcheng village.
A criminal case was registered at Champhai Police Station under sections 21(c)/25/29 of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 for further investigation on backward and forward linkages.
The arrested persons were produced before a local district court in Champhai which remanded them to judicial custody for 14 days and sent them to the district jail in Champhai.
