Agartala, March 29 (AD): Tripura has adequate stock of ration items and petrol, diesel, kerosene and cooking gas. Food Minister Sushanta Chowdhury has assured the people of Tripura in this regard. With his warning, the rainy season is coming. Strict legal action will be taken against illegal stocking of goods.
In a press conference at the Secretariat today, Food and Public Relations Minister Sushanta Chowdhury said that out of 2,048 ration shops in Tripura, women are running 290, 165 through cooperative societies and 1,593 by men. According to him, there are 9 lakh 59 thousand 455 ration cards in Tripura. Among them there are 1 lakh 8 thousand 840 Antyoday cards, 4 lakh 92 thousand 292 BPL cards, 2882 Antyoday Brew cards and 3 lakh 55 thousand 441 APL cards. He claimed that enough ration material is stocked to supply everyone.
Giving detailed information in this regard, he said that Tripura needs 730 metric tons of rice every day. At present 63 thousand 198 metric tons of rice are stored. 87 days can easily be spent in it. He added that 106 metric tons of wheat is required per day, 5384 metric tons are in stock. Sugar requirement is 32 metric tons per day, stock is 857 metric tons. Lentil group needs 32 metric tons, there are 676 metric tons. 67 metric tons of salt is required, 1007 metric tons are available. He said, 220 kilo liters of petrol is required per day. Compared to that there is 1564 kilo liters. Diesel 350 kilo liters is required, 1937 kilo liters are available. 77 kilo liters of kerosene are required, 331 kilo liters are available. Besides, cooking gas is 10 thousand 925 required per day, there are 34 thousand 762.
According to him, the monsoon season is coming, along with the news of artificial shortage of daily commodities. His warning, hoarders involved in the black market beware. Strict legal action will be taken against illegal stocking of daily commodities. He said that the enforcement team of the food department is always alert.
