Agartala: Feb 27: Left Front and Congress representatives went to the Election Commission to prevent any untoward incident from happening at the counting center of the assembly election on March 2. Left Front Committee convener Narayan Kar, CPIM state secretary Jitendra Chowdhury, Congress leaders Sudip Roy Barman and Ashish Saha met state Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte on Monday evening.
They discussed maintaining a peaceful atmosphere with Chief Election Officer of the state Kiran Gitte. They were informed about various issues related to the election from the Chief Electoral Officer of the state. After coming out later, CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury said that the Vice-Chancellor of Maharaja Bir Bikram University is an RSS-backed person. He had floated the idea of pooling public tax money before the elections but the Left Congress leadership raised the issue before the state’s Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitte. It was subsequently stopped on the orders of the Chief Electoral Officer. Some professors of Maharaja Bir Bikram University published exit polls in violation of Election Commission’s code of conduct once again on Monday afternoon. It shows that Bharatiya Janata Party is going to win 49 seats.
CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury has lodged a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitya regarding this issue. The Chief Electoral Officer of the state has assured that a condolence notice will be issued in this regard. Meanwhile, Congress leader Sudeep Roy Barman said that Bharatiya Janata Party representatives may carry out agitational activities around the counting centers on the day of declaration of results. He complained to the Chief Electoral Officer of the state that Bharatiya Janata Party may be doing such activities for fear of losing power. State Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Gitye has assured that no untoward incident will take place in and around the counting centre, said Congress leader Sudip Roy Barman. According to the Election Commission’s code of conduct, exit polls cannot be released before 7 pm. But the question is why some professors of Maharaja Bir Bikram University published the exit poll at noon and spread it on social media. According to CPIM State Secretary Jitendra Chowdhury’s complaint, the code of conduct of the Election Commission has no value to them. Is this kind of activity to please the ruling party without any regard to the code of conduct of the Election Commission? Or is there any debt behind the secret? It remains to be seen what kind of measures the state election office takes this time.
