Agartala: Jan 12: After a long time, a thief absconding from Tripura outside the state has been caught in the police net. The stolen gold ornaments were also recovered from his possession.
In this regard, Sadar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ajay Kumar Das said that on December 18, 2022, a complaint of theft of gold ornaments was lodged at the house of Sanjay Saha, a resident of Chittaranjan Road. Based on that complaint, the police started an investigation. In the police investigation, the connection of Biswajit Debnath with the theft has come to light. He was known as a lawyer in that area. On that occasion, he used to travel to Sanjay Saha’s house. Although he was seen roaming around the court premises posing as a lawyer, the SDPO said that he was not actually in the profession of lawyer.
He said that the investigation revealed that the fake lawyer stole gold ornaments and fled to Odisha. Since then his movements were monitored. He said that the police was able to arrest Biswajit yesterday after receiving information that he had come to Agartala. During the police search, it was possible to recover the stolen gold ornaments from him. SDPO Ajay Kumar Das said the estimated market value of the recovered gold ornaments would be Rs.6 lakh.
