Agartala, May 22: The trend of arresting Bangladeshi infiltrators in Tripura persists, prompting concerns from the ruling BJP partner, TIPRA Motha.
On Thursday, two more Bangladeshi citizens who had illegally entered Tripura and were preparing to board a train for New Delhi were apprehended by the vigilant Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Agartala railway station, according to Tapas Das, the officer in charge of the GRP station.
Das noted the frequent arrests, stating, “Such incidents are happening almost every other day, indicating significant lapses in border security that need urgent rectification.”
Meanwhile, Animesh Debbarma, a senior leader of TIPRA Motha and a current Minister in the BJP-led government, expressed serious concern over the recurring infiltrations from Bangladesh into Tripura.
Debbarma, who was the Opposition Leader earlier highlighted the historical context of the 1971 influx during the war with Pakistan, which led to the formation of Bangladesh and turned the indigenous population into a minority in Tripura.
Debbarma emphasized that the ongoing illegal migration continues to strain Tripura’s limited economy, land, and resources.
Debbarma reiterated that this situation underscores TIPRA Motha’s core demand for Greater Tipraland, aimed at protecting the interests of the indigenous population.
He called on state and central government agencies to take decisive action to halt illegal crossings and infiltration, which he described as a significant security threat to the nation.
“The government must act immediately and robustly to prevent Tripura from being used as a corridor for illegal migration,” Debbarma insisted.
These developments underscore the urgent need for enhanced border security measures and a coordinated response to the infiltration issue in Tripura.
