Agartala, March 20:Former MP and CPIM state secretary, Jitendra Chowdhury, has officially assumed the role of Leader of the Opposition Party in the Tripura Legislative Assembly.
In a formal ceremony, Speaker Biswabandhu Sen handed over the letter of appointment to Chowdhury, acknowledging his extensive experience as a former MP and Minister.
Addressing reporters after assuming office, Chowdhury emphasized the pivotal role of the Opposition Leader in governance, highlighting the need for constructive engagement with the ruling party to address public concerns and improve policies for the welfare of the people.
He commended his predecessor, Animesh Debbarma, for his efforts in championing public issues and pledged to continue advocating for the interests of the people in the assembly.
Speaker Biswabandhu Sen underscored the necessity of appointing a new Opposition Leader following the recent alliance between the TIPRA Motha party and the BJP-led government, signaling a new phase in Tripura’s political landscape.
