Tripura Pradesh Congress on Thursday staged a protest in front of State Bank of India’s Tripura headquarters in Melarmath, demanding immediate disclosure of details regarding electoral bonds in compliance with the apex court’s order.
MLA Gopal Chandra Roy, Pradesh Congress Spokesperson Prabir Chkraborty, Sadar District Congress president Tanmoy Roy, SC cell Chairman Niranjan Das, Pradesh Congress secretary Jaydip Roy Barman, Pradesh Mahila Congress president Sarbani Ghosh Chakraborty, Youth Congress president Neel Kamal Saha among others led the rally in presence of other activists and supporters.
Speaking to the reporters from the rally, Pradesh Congress Spokesperson Prabir Chakraborty criticized State Bank of India for ‘favouring’ the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
“It is surprising that when the BJP boasts about digital India, the SBI is taking so much time to disclose the data. BJP is the biggest gainer of this notorious scheme named electoral bonds”, said Chakraborty.
The Congress further alleged that the BJP is trying to hide all information regarding who funded them.
TPCC Spokesperson added, “The Supreme Court scrapped the Modi government’s electoral bond scheme of anonymous political funding and termed it unconstitutional. The apex court also ordered disclosure of the names of the purchasers, value of the bonds and their recepients. But the SBI once gain moved the apex court seeking an extension. This proves that the SBI is trying to favour the BJP”.
The Congress warned to continue protest till the SBI makes the list public in compliance with the Supreme Court’s order.
