Agartala: Sept 23: Tipra Motha has called for a bandh on September 30 next to put pressure on the Center to find a constitutional solution to the demands of the indigenous people of Tripura.
The decision was taken after strategic deliberations among party leaders, who stressed the need for continued advocacy with the central government and the Home Ministry to address the concerns of the state’s indigenous population.
Addressing the press, former Tipra Motha president Pradyot Kishore Manikya Deb Barma said, “We have resolved to call a one-day bandh in ADC to demand a constitutional solution for the indigenous people of Tripura. Our demand is not against any community, but for the original people of the state. While the central government and the Home Ministry have shown receptivity, it is important that we keep up the pressure to ensure that our concerns are taken seriously.
Pradyot, who also has royal lineage in Tripura, urged all members of the indigenous community associated with Tipra Motha as well as others to rally in support of the bandh.
“I strongly believe that ‘Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura’ (One Tripura, Great Tripura) will remain elusive unless the indigenous population is uplifted. The promises made by BJP have not been fulfilled yet. I remain steadfast in my efforts for the betterment of my community and our future generations.”
