Agartala: Nov 19: Rubbishing the opposition allegations that law and order in Tripura has totally deteriorated during the tenure of present government, on Saturday the state’s Information and Cultural Affairs Minister Sushanta Chowdhury presenting comparative findings of the state Home Department claimed the just the opposite.
Addressing a press conference in the BJP office in Agartala Chowdhury, quoting Home department data said that the various indicators of law and order in state during Left rule between 2003 to 2017 with the BJP regime from 2018 till date indicates that there has been sharp decline of crime and increase in conviction rates in Tripura after BJP came to power.
He claimed that in Tripura during last 4.5 years time crime against human body has reduced by 20 percent, while murder rates gone down by 15 percent, similarly dowry deaths 10 percent, rape 10 percent, molestation 35 percent, attempted to rape 15 percent and in comparison to 2003 to 2017 time period when CPIM led Left Front was in power in Tripura.
He added that the present government’s priority is women safety under the Prime Minister’s Beti Bachao, Beti Pardhao scheme and in Tripura after formation of the BJP government the overall crime against women has declined by 30 percentage and most important unlike the previous government now there is no political interferences and police has liberty to act neutrally, and as a result of which overall rate of conviction has increased by 50 percent.
The Minister said that according to NCRB report once Tripura led the nation in crime against women but at present it has reduced by 30 percent during BJP regime with eve teasing cases significantly reduced by 60 percent and molestation by 35 percent.
Chowdhury said that in Tripura since 2018 crime against property has also reduced along with 20 percent reduction in registration of cases. He said that as per the NCRB report published in 2021, Tripura is in the 5th position from below among the states with lowest crime, again the Narcotic Control Record Bureau records reveals that the state has seized second highest drug in the NE region and only next to Assam.
The Minister said that since 2018 when BJP came to power some 1800 drug related cases have been registered while 2800 persons have been arrested in connection to those cases and the seizures made were 1.92 lakh kg ganja, 8 lakh bottles of codaine based cough syrup contraband, 45.65 lakh Yaba tablets and 18 Kg heroin in the state.
He said that people have faith on this government and also claimed that the BJP is ready to fight the election and comfortably win as single majority as the opposition CPIM and Congress both still confusing the people of the state over forming coalition and with the TIPRA Motha.
The current BJP government has honored Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya. Three people from the state have received the Padma Shri award during the current government. Minister Sushanta Chowdhury also claimed that no one could have ever thought that the people of the state would be given the Padma Shri. He also said that Gandachara has been renamed as Ganda Twuisa. Baramura is renamed Hatai Katar, in honor of the people there. A public holiday has been declared on the birthday of Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya. The previous state government did not speak on the Bru-Reang refugee issue. But the current government has taken initiatives to solve that problem. Arrangements have been made for the resettlement of Bru-Reang refugees in the state of Tripura.
