Agartala: Nov 14: On Monday morning, the people of Thalabhanga area protested by locked in Charilam block demanding road reform.
They allege that the BJP government that ousted the 25-year-old Left government from power was supposed to develop the area, but after four and a half years, there is no initiative to rehabilitate the road as a development work. Many times the demands were made to the local public representatives, but they did not take any initiative. Apart from this, even though the officials in the block were informed about this, they did not take any initiative to repair the road. So this morning the people of the area got together and hung up the Charilam block lock.
Finally, the administrative delegation rushed in and assured the locals that there would be a road, to lift the blockade. But for 40 years, administrative officials and public representatives have been giving such assurances. But no one is taking any initiative to repair the road. Due to the bad condition of the road, the pedestrians are facing difficulties to travel every day. And the vote is actually just an assurance that the road will be repaired. So the question of locals is how much they will trust such assurances.
