Hundreds of illegal construction were bulldozed in the GB-Indranagar area in Agartala as the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) has launched a massive eviction drive on Friday.
Mayor of AMC, Dipak Majumder said that it has been decided to make Agartala free from illegal encroachment of government land especially in the road sides and due to public faces traffic congestions.
He added that moreover, the government has also decided to construct drainage channels to prevent water logging in the capital city and its surrounding inorder to keep the areas free from flooding especially during the rainy season and so initiatives have been taken to free the government land which are grabbed illegally.
Several houses and businesses constructed on the sides of the road connecting the main referral GB hospital via the Dhaleshwar bypass have been demolished and similar operations are underway in other areas said the Mayor.
He adding that in addition to prior demarcation and serving notices the AMC has been also announcing using public address systems regarding the demolition of illegal structures so that necessary measures can be taken by the public.
Meantime, many locals complained that the authority had not served any prior notice or given adequate time for removal of the structures and due to the sudden demolition drive they are facing heavy losses and damages which could be avoided had they received advance notice and time to take appropriate measures.
