Agartala, October 23: Tripura Police will bring arrested self-styled content creator Amir Shokeen to the state on transit remand after the completion of his arrest formalities in a case registered by Delhi Police, informed Inspector General (Law and Order) of Tripura Police Ipper Manchak on Friday.
Shokeen was arrested by Delhi Police on Thursday evening following allegations of racial harassment and derogatory remarks against a youth from Tripura, police said.
“We will definitely bring him here. Once the arrest formalities in the Delhi case are completed, we will take him on remand and bring him to Tripura,” Manchak told reporters on the sidelines of a Rashtriya Ekta Diwas programme in Agartala.
The IG said Tripura Police took up the case immediately after receiving the video allegedly showing the incident and dispatched a team to coordinate with Delhi Police.
He said there had been close coordination between the two police forces over the past two days, particularly since Thursday morning, and Tripura Police provided the necessary inputs for the operation.
Manchak praised Delhi Police for the arrest, saying the operation was conducted jointly on the basis of information shared by the Tripura Police team. He also confirmed that Delhi Police had registered a separate case.
The alleged incident triggered widespread condemnation in Tripura and the region, with student organisations and political leaders demanding action over the reported racial slurs and harassment of the youth.
Earlier, organisations representing indigenous and tribal communities had lodged police complaints in Tripura seeking action against the alleged offender.
Meanwhile, Manchak flagged off a motorcycle rally organised by Tripura Police as part of the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations, promoting national unity and awareness against drug abuse.
The rally began at MR Debbarma Memorial Stadium at AD Nagar Police Lines, covered the state capital and concluded at Swami Vivekananda Stadium.
Manchak said the campaign sought to discourage young people from drug use and encourage public participation in the fight against narcotics.
He said Tripura Police, the Tripura State Rifles, the BSF and other agencies had been working against drugs, but public awareness and cooperation remained crucial.
The rally was organised ahead of the October 31 national-level Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations marking the 151st birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
