Agartala, October 15:
A 49-year-old man was arrested after police seized an Italian-made pistol, 14 rounds of live ammunition and related accessories during a raid at a house in Bhagalpur Darga, a border-area locality, under the Airport police station in Tripura’s Agartala, said Naru Gopal Deb, Officer-in-Charge of Airport Police Station on Wednesday late evening.
The raid was initially conducted on the basis of intelligence inputs that a large quantity of drugs was allegedly concealed inside the house. However, police recovered a factory-made pistol, a magazine, a holster, rifle oil and a pull-through cleaning accessory, instead of the suspected narcotics, according to the information available.
The arrested person has been identified as Santosh Biswas, 49, who was stated to be the owner of the house.
The seized items included an Italian-made pistol, 14 rounds of live ammunition, a magazine, a holster, rifle oil and a pull-through used for cleaning firearms.
Police subsequently took Biswas to the Airport police station for further investigation. The circumstances under which the firearm and ammunition were kept at the house, were not immediately found. However the accused did not possess any valid documents or a licence for the weapon, so police has arrested the house owner and registered a case under Arms Act.
