Agartala, October 13:
Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha on Tuesday said his government remained concerned about the implementation of the tripartite agreement and would speak to central leaders at the earliest, amid questions over the future of the ruling NDA alliance following TIPRA Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma’s recent announcement that he would step away from active politics.
Saha said the state government would pursue the matter and ensure that justified demands were addressed, without elaborating on any specific timeline or fresh decision on the agreement.
“We are already concerned about this issue. I will speak to central leaders as early as possible. There will be no shortcoming, and whatever is justified will be done,” Saha told reporters on the sidelines of a Cabinet meeting.
The remarks come against the backdrop of the tripartite agreement involving the Centre, the Tripura government and TIPRA Motha, aimed at addressing issues concerning the state’s indigenous population.
On the separate issue of appointments of candidates who qualified in the Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET), Saha said recruitment for undergraduate teacher posts under TET-I remained on hold because the matter was sub judice.
He said the government would examine the candidates’ cases after the legal proceedings were resolved.
Regarding TET-II graduate teacher recruitment, Saha said the Teachers’ Recruitment Board, Tripura (TRBT), had forwarded 67 eligible candidates’ names to the department against 67 additional posts created to address the shortage of graduate teachers at the secondary level. Appointment offers would be issued to them on Wednesday, he said.
The chief minister said the recruitment process for 1,020 graduate teacher posts could not be completed because eligible candidates were unavailable for certain reserved categories. He cited 233 Scheduled Tribe posts and 23 ex-servicemen posts, besides 20 posts for persons with disabilities, as among those that remained unfilled.
Saha added that 1,502 candidates had received TET-II certificates and that the government was considering the matter, with a decision to be taken later.
He also referred to a pending reservation-related case concerning 233 posts, which had affected completion of the recruitment process.
Separately, the Tripura Cabinet adopted a resolution congratulating Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years as head of a government, from October 7, 2001, to October 7, 2026, first as Gujarat chief minister and subsequently as Prime Minister.
According to Saha, the resolution commended Modi’s leadership, describing national interest, public service, national security, development and self-reliance as key priorities of his government. It also praised initiatives aimed at extending the benefits of governance to the last person in society and encouraging public participation in nation-building.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s development vision, Saha said Modi had emphasised the welfare of four key sections of society — youth, women, farmers and the poor — arguing that their development would contribute to the progress of the country as a whole.
The Chief Minister also highlighted improvements in infrastructure and defence manufacturing, saying India had made progress towards self-reliance while expanding its capacity to meet domestic requirements and supply equipment abroad.
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to the development agenda, Saha said Tripura had received support in several sectors under the Modi government and expressed confidence that the state would continue to benefit from improved connectivity and infrastructure.
The Cabinet, in its resolution, reaffirmed its commitment to the vision of Viksit Bharat, guided by the principles of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas”, and extended its wishes for the Prime Minister’s good health and long public life.
