Agartala, October 7: The 2026-27 academic session at Maharaja Bir Bikram College began with a Nabin Baran (Freshers’ Welcome) ceremony at Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhavan, where Transport and Tourism Minister Sushanta Chowdhury urged newly admitted students to pursue academic excellence while developing values, discipline and a sense of responsibility.
Addressing hundreds of students at the programme, Chowdhury said entering college marked the beginning of an important phase in their lives and provided an opportunity to acquire knowledge, develop skills and discover their potential.
“Today begins one of the most important chapters of your life. College is not just about academic learning—it is about discovering yourself, gaining knowledge and skills, enriching values, and preparing to turn your dreams into reality,” he said.
The minister encouraged the students to set clear goals and work consistently towards achieving them, while remaining committed to their responsibilities towards society.
He said the students of Maharaja Bir Bikram College could play an important role in the future development of Tripura and the country by making effective use of their educational opportunities.
“Your success will be Tripura’s success. Dream, work hard, and remain steadfast in your goals. May your journey be illuminated with knowledge, achievement, humanity, and a bright future,” Chowdhury said.
The Nabin Baran ceremony formally welcomed the new batch into the college community and marked the beginning of their higher education journey.
The programme also sought to familiarise the freshers with the institution, its academic environment and the responsibilities associated with college life.
Students were advised to make the most of their years at the institution by balancing academic pursuits with personal development, discipline and social responsibility.
The event also highlighted the importance of values and character-building in shaping young people into responsible citizens.
Maharaja Bir Bikram College is among Tripura’s prominent institutions of higher education and has contributed to the state’s academic and cultural development over the years.
The minister’s participation in the freshers’ programme underscored the emphasis being placed on youth development and education.
The ceremony concluded with greetings and best wishes for the newly admitted students as they embarked on their academic journey.
The students were urged to remain focused on their goals and use their college years to build the knowledge, skills and values required to contribute meaningfully to society.
