A 36-year-old Border Security Force (BSF) jawan from Tripura died after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest while on duty in Delhi, leaving his family and residents of Rangutia village in Bamutia area grief-stricken, family members said.
The deceased was identified as Premjoy Sarkar, who was posted at a BSF camp in Delhi.
According to his family, Sarkar fell ill on Tuesday while on duty and was rushed to a hospital. However, doctors declared him dead during treatment.
Preliminary reports suggested that he had suffered a heart attack, family members said.
Sarkar’s mortal remains were flown to Agartala Airport on Wednesday morning and taken to his native village of Rangutia.
Soon after the body arrived at the airport, local youths organised a bike rally to escort the mortal remains to his residence. Several residents joined the procession to pay their last respects to the jawan.
The BSF completed the necessary formalities and accorded Sarkar a guard of honour in recognition of his service.
The arrival of his mortal remains plunged Rangutia into mourning, with residents gathering at his home to pay their respects.
“The entire area is shaken and grief-stricken by the news,” a local resident said.
Sarkar is survived by his wife, two daughters aged between four and seven years, his parents, an elder brother and three sisters.
His sudden death has left the family devastated, with relatives, neighbours and local residents offering condolences and extending support to the bereaved family.
The death of the jawan at the age of 36 has evoked grief across the village, with residents remembering his service in the BSF and praying for the departed soul.
The mortal remains were taken to the village amid a gathering of people who lined the route and paid their final respects.
Family members said Sarkar had been serving in the BSF and was posted in Delhi at the time of his death.
