Agartala, October 4:** A tree plantation and cleanliness drive was organised in Ward No. 31 of the Agartala Municipal Corporation on Sunday as part of the month-long Seva Sankalp Abhiyan being observed to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
The programme began at the ward office premises with the planting of saplings under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative.
Participants highlighted the need to increase green cover and promote environmental conservation as part of efforts to create a healthier and cleaner environment for future generations.
The plantation drive was followed by a cleanliness campaign at the nearby Kali Temple compound, where volunteers, local residents and party workers joined hands to clean the premises.
Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee participated in the cleanliness drive and wielded a broom along with workers and residents.
Speaking on the occasion, Bhattacharjee stressed the importance of creating awareness about sanitation, cleanliness and environmental protection among people.
“I extend heartfelt appreciation to all organisers and workers for their tireless efforts in keeping our surroundings clean. This campaign reflects our responsibility towards society and our commitment to a cleaner, healthier environment,” he said.
Ward 31 Corporator Anjana Das, Banamalipur Mandal president Arindam Choudhury and several BJP leaders and workers also participated in the programme.
The organisers said the initiative was aimed at encouraging people to take greater responsibility for maintaining clean surroundings and protecting the environment.
The Seva Sankalp Abhiyan is being observed through various programmes, including tree plantation drives, health camps and social welfare activities.
The Ward 31 programme formed part of the grassroots activities being organised under the campaign, with participants focusing on the twin objectives of public service and environmental conservation.
Bhattacharjee and other participants also emphasised the need for sustained community involvement in maintaining cleanliness and promoting greenery in urban areas.
The organisers said such programmes could help strengthen civic awareness and encourage residents to actively participate in activities related to sanitation and environmental protection.
The drive concluded with an appeal to residents to continue efforts to keep public spaces clean and contribute to increasing greenery in and around the city.
The programme also sought to underline the role of community participation in promoting cleaner surroundings and responsible civic practices.
