Agartala, October 1: Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Dipak Majumder on Thursday urged sanitation workers to maintain their commitment towards keeping the Tripura capital clean and called for greater public participation in the civic body’s cleanliness initiatives.
Addressing a special programme organised at the Corporation premises, Majumder said sanitation workers perform an essential role in maintaining public hygiene and ensuring a healthy environment for residents.
The programme, titled **‘Safai Mitra Suraksha Shibir’ and ‘Flagging Off of Task Force Vehicles’**, was organised to highlight the contribution of sanitation workers and strengthen sanitation-related activities in the city.
Majumder, Deputy Mayor Manika Das Dutta, Additional Commissioner Mihir Kanti Ghosh and other senior officials inaugurated the programme by lighting a ceremonial lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, Majumder thanked sanitation workers for carrying out their duties regularly despite difficult working conditions.
“The cleanliness of Agartala is possible only because of the dedication and hard work of our sanitation workers. Their contribution is invaluable,” he said.
The Mayor said sanitation workers were at the forefront of efforts to maintain cleanliness and hygiene across the city and called for continued cooperation from them to achieve the Corporation’s objectives.
He also appealed to residents to take greater responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean. Citizens should dispose of waste at designated points and follow the cleanliness guidelines issued by the municipal corporation, he said.
Majumder emphasised that maintaining a clean city could not be achieved through the efforts of the civic administration alone and required active cooperation from residents.
“Public participation is equally important in ensuring a clean and healthy Agartala,” he said.
The programme also focused on the safety and welfare of sanitation workers, with officials stressing the need to ensure their protection and dignity while they discharge their duties.
The flagging off of task force vehicles formed another key part of the programme. The vehicles are expected to strengthen the Corporation’s sanitation operations and assist in addressing cleanliness-related requirements in different parts of the city.
Deputy Mayor Das Dutta and other dignitaries also underscored the importance of coordinated efforts among sanitation workers, civic officials and citizens.
The organisers said sustained cooperation among all stakeholders would be necessary to improve sanitation services, promote public hygiene and strengthen Agartala’s cleanliness initiatives.
