Agartala, October 1: The Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) and Tata Trusts are discussing a proposed five-year partnership aimed at expanding livelihood opportunities and strengthening supporting infrastructure for rural households in three Aspirational Blocks of the state, officials said.
The proposed programme will cover Dasda and Damcherra in North Tripura and Ganganagar in Dhalai district, where interventions are planned to support income-generating activities among rural beneficiaries.
A video conference was held on Wednesday between TRLM CEO Tarit Kanti Chakma and representatives of Tata Trusts to discuss the proposed collaboration and work out its broad implementation framework.
Officials said the programme is proposed to commence in January 2027 and continue until November 2031. Tata Trusts is expected to provide an estimated outlay of about Rs 15 crore for the initiative.
Under the proposed plan, around 3,500 rural households are expected to receive direct project support in the three identified blocks. An additional 1,500 households are proposed to be covered through convergence with livelihood interventions already being implemented by TRLM.
The programme will focus on strengthening household-level livelihoods, with piggery, duckery and fishery among the activities identified for support.
Besides livelihood activities, the proposed initiative will include development of infrastructure required by beneficiaries to undertake and sustain such economic activities, officials said.
The proposed collaboration is intended to create additional income-generating opportunities for rural households and improve the support infrastructure associated with livelihood activities.
Officials said convergence with TRLM’s existing programmes would form an important component of the proposed initiative, allowing additional households to benefit through coordinated implementation.
During the virtual meeting, officials from both sides discussed the proposed programme, including the areas of intervention, beneficiary coverage and the broad modalities for implementation.
The discussions are expected to be followed by further consultations to finalise the operational framework of the programme.
The two organisations will also have to work out the specific responsibilities of the respective partners, the mechanism for identifying beneficiaries and the nature of infrastructure and livelihood support to be provided before the proposed Memorandum of Understanding is finalised.
The partnership remains at the discussion stage, with the detailed modalities yet to be worked out.
Once formalised, the programme is expected to run for nearly five years across the three identified Aspirational Blocks, focusing on livelihood activities and related infrastructure for rural households.
The proposed initiative is part of efforts to strengthen sustainable livelihood opportunities and improve convergence of development interventions in rural areas of Tripura, officials said.
