Agartala: Feb 22: The year was 21 November 2017. On that day, journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik was murdered inside the camp of TSR’s 2nd Battalion at Radha Kishore Nagar, near Banikya Chaumuhni, the pride of the TSR Army. Journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik was shot dead outside Commandant Tapan Debvarma’s office at around 12 noon that day.
This incident created a huge stir across the country. A journalist will be murdered in broad daylight inside the protected area of the Araksha administration, and it cannot be that no one from the administration is involved in this murder. Commandant Tapan Debbarma was the main mastermind of this murder. Such complaints were raised in different quarters of that time. Sudip Dutta was also accused of disposing of Bhowmik’s dead body. Later, the journalists got the news and went to the spot and found the dead body. Later, under pressure, the mastermind sent the body to GB Hospital. Police Commandant Tapan Debbarma and two others were later arrested in this incident. From the lower court, the case was later moved to the higher court. After nearly five years, the Tripura High Court on Wednesday granted bail to Commandant Tapan Debbarma, the prime accused in the Sudeep Dutta Bhowmik murder case.
Senior lawyer Piyush Kanti Biswas said that Tapan Debbarma’s bail plea was rejected in the Tripura High Court on CBI’s objection. In view of that judgment, Tapan Debbarma appeared before the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court asked the Tripura High Court to consider whether Tapan Debbarma can be granted bail after considering some guidelines. Taking into account the guidelines set by the Supreme Court, the Tripura High Court on Wednesday granted the bail plea of Tapan Debbarma. The high court also directed Tapan Debbarma to meet the investigating officer in the case every week. During the then Left Front government, a section of journalists moved to hand over the investigation of Sudip Dutta Bhowmik’s murder to the CBI. They took this issue to Delhi. The then Left Front government led by Manik Sarkar did not accept the demand of the journalists in any way. At that time, the Bharatiya Janata Party’s top leadership had promised to hand over the investigation into the murder of journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik to the CBI if they came to power in the 2018 Tripura Assembly elections. After the formation of the BJP-led coalition government in the 2018 Tripura Assembly elections, the investigation into the murder of journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik was handed over to the CBI.
After 2018, 2023 Tripura Assembly elections have been completed. Just waiting for result declaration. The question is how mastermind Tapan Debbarma, the main accused in the murder of journalist Sudip Dutta Bhowmik, got bail from the High Court during the CBI investigation. Buzz is everywhere. In fact, a part is trying to settle the case by relaxing the investigation process. But media demands fair trial.
