Agartala, August 14: The Border Security Force (BSF) has stepped up security and surveillance along the international border in Tripura ahead of the 80th Independence Day celebrations on August 15, with additional measures being put in place to prevent any untoward incident and maintain heightened vigilance along the sensitive frontier.
Tripura shares an 856-km-long international border with Bangladesh and is surrounded by the neighbouring country on three sides, making border security a key concern during major national occasions.
Security arrangements have been strengthened along vulnerable stretches of the border, with BSF personnel maintaining enhanced surveillance and conducting intensified patrolling to prevent any attempt at unauthorised movement or cross-border activities.
The heightened vigil comes amid preparations across the state for Independence Day celebrations, with large public gatherings and official programmes scheduled at various locations.
The BSF, which guards the India-Bangladesh international border, has been maintaining close coordination with the state administration and other security agencies to ensure peaceful conduct of the celebrations.
Alongwith the male, female security personnel have also been keeping a close watch on areas along the border that could potentially be exploited for illegal cross-border movement.
The focus is on preventing infiltration, smuggling and other activities that could pose a security challenge during the heightened security period.
Officials have emphasised that the additional deployment and surveillance measures are precautionary in nature and are aimed at ensuring that the Independence Day celebrations pass off peacefully across the state.
With the national celebrations marking 80 years of India’s Independence, security agencies in Tripura remain on heightened alert, particularly along the state’s extensive international boundary with Bangladesh.
