Reaffirming the Tripura government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector and improving the welfare of farmers, **Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ratan Lal Nath** on Tuesday participated in a paddy plantation programme at **Gajaria village in Mohanpur**. The symbolic initiative highlighted the government’s continued focus on promoting scientific farming, sustainable agriculture and closer engagement with the farming community.
The programme witnessed the participation of officials from the Agriculture Department, local public representatives and a large number of farmers, reflecting a shared commitment to enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring long-term food security in the state.
Joining farmers in planting paddy, Nath described agriculture as the backbone of Tripura’s economy and acknowledged the vital role played by cultivators in ensuring food security. He said the prosperity of the state is closely linked to the well-being of its farmers and stressed that supporting agriculture remains one of the government’s top priorities.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister urged farmers to embrace modern agricultural practices, including the use of high-quality seeds, scientific cultivation methods and advanced technologies to improve crop yields and increase farm incomes. He said the government has been implementing several farmer-centric initiatives aimed at modernising agriculture, enhancing productivity and creating sustainable livelihood opportunities in rural areas.
Sharing his personal experience of working in the paddy field, Nath said the experience was deeply fulfilling. “The fragrance of the soil, feet covered in mud and the genuine smiles of our farmers make this an unforgettable experience. Our farmers are the true architects of our food security. Standing beside them, recognising their hard work and making agriculture more prosperous is our collective responsibility,” he said.
The Minister also highlighted various government initiatives designed to make farming more profitable and technology-driven. These include training programmes for farmers, distribution of improved seed varieties, access to modern agricultural machinery and financial assistance to encourage the adoption of scientific farming practices.
Farmers who participated in the programme appreciated the Minister’s field-level interaction and welcomed the government’s continued engagement with the agricultural community. They expressed hope that such initiatives would be organised regularly to strengthen the connection between policymakers and cultivators while encouraging wider adoption of modern farming techniques across Tripura.
