Agartala, July 27: The Tripura High Court has admitted two Public Interest Litigations (PILs) alleging large-scale irregularities in recruitment to more than 100 Group C and Group D posts under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC). The court has issued notices to the TTAADC administration and fixed August 6 for the next hearing.
Speaking to reporters outside the High Court, senior advocate and activist Purushottam Roy Barman, representing the petitioners, alleged that the TTAADC administration carried out the appointments without issuing any recruitment advertisement or following a transparent selection process.
According to the petitions, the appointments were made on a “pick-and-choose” basis, bypassing established recruitment rules and legal procedures, thereby depriving eligible candidates of an opportunity to apply.
Roy Barman contended that the alleged recruitment process violated Articles 14, 15 and 16 of the Constitution, which guarantee equality before law, prohibit discrimination and ensure equal opportunity in public employment.
He further alleged that despite serving legal notices and seeking recruitment-related documents through applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, the TTAADC administration failed to provide the requested information.
Emphasising that the TTAADC is a constitutional body and not a private institution, the senior advocate said all appointments must be made strictly in accordance with prescribed rules and through a transparent recruitment process.
Taking note of the allegations, the High Court admitted both PILs and issued notices to the TTAADC administration. The matter will come up for further hearing on August 6, when the court is expected to examine the allegations in detail.
No response from the TTAADC administration was immediately available on the allegations.
