Agartala, July 27:
Tripura paid solemn tributes to the heroes of the 1999 Kargil War on the occasion of the 27th Kargil Vijay Diwas, with Governor N Indrasena Reddy, leading the state-level observance at the Albert Ekka War Memorial in capital Agartala’s Lichubagan on Sunday.
The Governor laid a wreath at the memorial as Army personnel presented a ceremonial salute to the fallen soldiers.
The programme was attended by West Tripura District Magistrate Dr. Vishal Kumar, Superintendent of Police Namit Pathak, ex-servicemen, families of martyrs and other dignitaries. Widows of martyrs and ex-servicemen were also felicitated during the event.
Speaking to reporters after the ceremony, Governor Reddy said the nation remembers and pays homage to its brave soldiers every year, just as families remember and honour their departed elders.
He said Kargil Vijay Diwas is an occasion to collectively pray for the peace of the souls of the soldiers who laid down their lives while defending the nation and to express the country’s eternal gratitude for their supreme sacrifice.
The Governor said the sacrifices of the Kargil martyrs must always be accorded the highest respect and urged the younger generation to remain committed to serving the nation.
Stressing the importance of patriotism and national duty, an ex serviceman Satish Gupta Chaudhury said every citizen should contribute to the country’s progress and uphold the ideals for which the soldiers made the ultimate sacrifice.
The ceremony concluded with floral tributes and prayers in memory of the Kargil martyrs, reaffirming the state’s respect for the courage and sacrifice of the Indian Armed Forces.
