Bishalgarh, June 27: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the Bishalgarh firing and extortion case, police arrested two more accused persons identified as Aman Deb and Rahul Debnath, who had allegedly been absconding for an extended period.
According to sources, the arrests were made during a late-night operation conducted on the basis of specific intelligence inputs. Acting on information that one of the accused had returned home, a large police team reached the Office Tilla area and surrounded the residence of Aman Deb.
Police officials stated that upon sensing the presence of law enforcement personnel, Aman Deb and Rahul Debnath allegedly attempted to flee the premises. However, after a brief operation, both individuals were successfully apprehended.
Investigators claim that the two are close associates of the prime accused, Ranbir Debnath, who had already been arrested earlier in connection with the firing incident. Police sources further alleged that Aman Deb and Rahul Debnath have been linked to multiple cases involving alleged land-related criminal activities and intimidation in the Bishalgarh region, including incidents reported along the Bishalgarh Bypass area.
Following the arrest of other accused individuals, including Ranbir Debnath and Mon Sarkar, the duo had reportedly gone into hiding to avoid police action. Officials said surveillance had been maintained around the residence for a considerable period, with plainclothes personnel monitoring movements and gathering intelligence before carrying out the operation.
Local residents have also raised allegations regarding repeated incidents of intimidation and violence linked to Aman Deb. Claims have additionally surfaced alleging that even members of his own family, including his mother Monimala Deb, had faced harassment. Allegations concerning the criminal background of his father, Kishore Deb, have also emerged.
Police are continuing the investigation and are expected to question the arrested individuals further to determine the broader network and possible links connected to the case.
