In a politically charged assertion that framed electoral gains beyond state boundaries, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday declared that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s success in West Bengal represents “a victory of the entire nation,” underlining its implications for national security, economic stability, and governance revival.
Speaking on the sidelines of a BJP victory rally in Agartala, Saha said the outcome was “not just Bengal’s victory, but India’s victory,” arguing that the mandate carries strategic importance in curbing inflation, strengthening border security, and restoring West Bengal’s “lost glory.”
Attributing the surge to the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saha also credited Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president J. P. Nadda for orchestrating a coordinated nationwide campaign.
He noted that party leaders and workers, including those from Tripura, were deployed extensively across West Bengal for months, adding that he personally campaigned in multiple constituencies.
“Trends indicate BJP’s strong performance across most regions,” Saha claimed, pointing to what he described as a visible pro-BJP sentiment on the ground.
Launching a sharp critique of previous regimes, the Chief Minister alleged that West Bengal had endured “decades of corruption and administrative decay”—first under Left rule and later under the government led by Mamata Banerjee.
He accused successive administrations of large-scale corruption, suppression of democratic rights, and failure to ensure women’s safety.
Saha placed significant emphasis on the electoral process, commending the Election Commission of India for conducting what he termed a “free and fair” election.
He alleged that earlier polls in the state were marred by irregularities, claiming that unusually high voter turnout in the past raised concerns about electoral integrity.
On national security, Saha reiterated the BJP’s position on illegal infiltration, particularly from Bangladesh and involving Rohingya groups.
He said the party remains committed to fencing border areas within a defined timeframe and initiating action against undocumented migrants residing in West Bengal.
Drawing governance contrasts, Saha highlighted the implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission in Tripura after 2018, suggesting that similar commitments in West Bengal would improve economic conditions and administrative efficiency.
He also stressed that ensuring women’s safety would be a key priority under BJP governance.
Turning to Tripura, the Chief Minister welcomed the BJP’s emphatic lead in the Dharmanagar Assembly by-election, where the party candidate surged ahead by over 18,000 votes. He described the margin as a “clear endorsement” of the state government’s policies and governance model.
Framing the broader political trajectory, Saha said the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance is consolidating its presence across regions, citing developments in states like Assam and Puducherry as indicators of expanding national support.
Invoking Bengal’s historic political resonance, he remarked, “What Bengal thinks today, India thinks tomorrow,” adding that the BJP now seeks to translate the current mandate into tangible outcomes through industrial growth, governance reforms, and enhanced national security.
Calling the moment one of “great satisfaction and joy,” Saha underscored the deep socio-political and cultural ties between Tripura and West Bengal, positioning the electoral outcome as a shared milestone with national implications.
Meanwhile, the victory rally witnessed the presence of several senior BJP leaders from Tripura, including state president and Rajya Sabha MP Rajib Bhattacharjee, who joined a massive turnout of enthusiastic party supporters, turning the event into a show of strength marked by celebratory slogans and visible grassroots mobilisation.
